The ultimate blow off valve?
Written 09-16-08
The other night I couldn't sleep because I
just kept thinking about new stuff to make, then I started to wonder how
hard it'd be to make a blow off valve... Still couldn't sleep so I got up
and busted open my cad program and downloaded some pics of various BOV's.
Three evenings at a couple hours each and it's finished! It's loosely based
on that wicked looking Tial one, but this one is completely my own design.
The piston is 2" OD and top part is 3" OD, so it should be pretty huge.
Scroll down a bit and you can see a second design that I made, this one will
be a compressor bypass valve (CBV) and better for stock-ish cars. It
will have 1" inlet/outlets and a 2" body, so much smaller than the big one.
At first I drew it up thinking that I would make one for myself, then that's
it. But after thinking about it more and more the idea is really
growing on me to start producing these and selling them to all you guys!
I would love to be THE guy for volvo blow off valves, even though they would
obviously fit on any car. Once I get my new lathe and milling machine,
then convert them both to CNC (stay tuned for that project...) then I should
be able to bust them out pretty quickly. I'll have to whip up an
at-home anodizing setup so I can make them all pretty! Then after
anodizing I'll bring it back to the cnc mill and engrave my logo into the
top. Can't wait to get going on this!
